John Carr, Associate Broker, Realtor®
John was born and raised in the small northwestern Pennsylvania town of Youngsville (Warren County). And with the exception of his three years of active duty Army service and a brief two-year foray into the wilds of Maine, he has been a life-long Pennsylvanian.
John served his three years of Army duty at Fort Meyer, Virginia, where he was a sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
John followed up his military experience by earning a bachelor’s degree at Penn State. The next ten years found him working in engineering and production management in the paper industry. Several years in Lock Haven, PA were followed by two in Maine. In 1997, John moved to Blair County to work at Appleton Papers in Roaring Spring.
In 2002, John left the paper industry to test his skills in sales. After several years selling industrial-grade coatings and epoxies, John got his real estate license and the rest, they say, is history.
John has thrived in his real estate career: 2005, his first year in real estate, saw him co-earn the Top Lister award for EXIT Realty John Hill. In 2006, John earned Top Seller honors for his office and also earned EXIT Realty Inc.’s Bronze Award for completing 25+ transactions for the fiscal year. 2007 and 2008 results were similar: Top Seller and Bronze Awards.
John’s dedication to constant improvement enabled him to earn his broker’s license in 2009 by completing 240 hours of required education and passing both a national and state broker’s exam.
In 2011 John moved from EXIT Realty John Hill to Perry Wellington Realty LLC, based in Hollidaysburg. Perry Wellington Realty has revolutionary ideas on how real estate should be done, and John could not resist. Originally from southeastern Pennsylvania I have become a native of the Centre Region after living here since 1978. My late husband brought our family here for his work at HRB Singer, now Raytheon and after our two children were established in school, I began my new career in real estate by working for a retired broker. I received my license in real estate sales in 1984. When in the early 1990′s I learned that you could in fact open a buyer agency, I jumped at the chance to have my own agency and in January 1996 Buyers Only Realty, Inc. was born.
Now, starting in 2012, I look forward to bring my vast knowledge to Perry Wellington Realty LLC as an associate Broker. I will always enjoy helping clients and customers save money, whether they are first time or next time clients. Perry Wellington continues my philosophy and specializes in helping both homebuyers and home sellers save lots of money in their transactions.
These days you can find me busy raising three of my grandchildren and working at my various hobbies ranging from amateur acting on various stages throughout the region, downhill skiing, macramé, sewing, playing canasta and other card games and football tailgating. George retired from the Social Security Adminsitration on 1/1/12 as the Altoona District Manager with almost 30 years of management experience.
After graduation from Shippensburg State University he began his federal career with a 3-year stint in the US. Army as an Information Specialist (reporter/writer) with the 101st Airborne Division. His civilian career as a public servant started at New Cumberland Army Depot where he advanced to the position of Management Analyst. George began his career with Social Security as a Claims Representative in Harrisburg in 1978. He then headed off to an Operations Supervisor position in Dubois. He moved to Altoona as the assistant manager in 1988. In 2005 he became the manager of the Altoona complex which includes the State College, DuBois and Lewistown branch offices.
As a Federal employee George demonstrated his commitment and professionalism in all he did. As a recruitment and training specialist he helped select and develop many of the Agency’s current employees. Under his leadership the Altoona SSA complex has led the way for many pilot projects and has served as a training hub for many new employees over many years.
He lives in Hollidaysburg with his wife, Nancy, and is currently on staff at Zion Lutheran Church in Hollidaysburg.
